History of Domino’s Cinnastix

Sometimes restaurants change their recipes of food they serve in the restaurant, that is the case with Dominos Cinnastix. They have changed the recipe, and they now serve cinnamon breadsticks, but you still have a craving for the Cinnastix preparing them at home, is the only way to go.

Cinnastix Ingredients

The cinnamon bread sticks part of this recipe only calls for four ingredients:

  • Pizza Dough
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon

You don’t need to make up a batch of homemade pizza dough, but you can. Most grocery stores sell refrigerated pizza dough in a can. If you go to the deli at Walmart you can get pizza dough, and Trader Joe’s is known for its delicious pizza dough.

  3. Meanwhile, melt the butter.
  4. Combine the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  5. Spread melted butter over the cooked dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.

Recipe Notes

  • When cutting the shape of the Cinnastix, roll out pizza dough to a rectangle, roughly 10 by 12 inches, cut in half across the longest side, and then cut the other sides into 8ths. You should have 16 individual pieces now.
  • If you don’t have butter, you can replace it with margarine.
  • This icing dipping sauce goes perfectly with the Cinnastix but you can also make a cream cheese dipping sauce or even a honey dipping sauce.

I have a homemade recipe that is delicious if you want to try it.

    Homemade Apple Dumplings

    Ingredients
    Sauce Ingredients

    1 cup sugar
    1 cup water
    1 tsp cinnamon
    2 Tbsp butter

    Dough Ingredients

    2 cups all flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    2/3 cup Crisco shortening
    1/2 cup milk
6 small Macintosh or Gala Apples about 3 inches in diameter Peeled and cored. Do not cut in half I used Gala, leave them whole.
    Instructions
Make the sauce first so it has time to cool down.
Make the dough and refrigerate it until you have peeled and cored your apples.
    Sauce Directions
I put all the sauce ingredients together in a medium saucepan. When it comes to a boil, I let it boil a minute or two to thicken a little bit.
    For the dough
Place the flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Cut the shortening into the flour mixture with a pastry blender. Add milk all at once. Stir with a fork until the dough just forms a ball. Place in the refrigerator until you have peeled and cored the apples.
Peel and core the apples. You can keep the apples from turning brown by placing them in cold water while you work.
I divide the dough into six equal portions and roll them out on a lightly floured surface individually. You can also roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface long enough to fit 6 apples on it and cut the dough into six squares.
Place the apples on a dough square, fill the center with butter, sprinkle sugar over top then sprinkle cinnamon over top.
Mold the dough around the apple, making sure there are no opening for the filling to escape from. Place the apples in a 13×9 inch baking pan. Spacing them about an inch apart. Pour the sauce over the dumplings, then sprinkle with sugar. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 35 minutes. Spoon the sauce on the bottom of the pan over the apple dumplings after they come out of the oven.

I have to say these were really good. The use of real butter adds something. I also worked at Domino’s Pizza and was around when these things first came out. They used a bottled subtance called Whirl….not butter, but it sure smelled like movie popcorn butter. Thanks for the info to make them at home.

actually, they do use butter. Also, the butter and cinnamon sugar go on the dough before AND after it bakes. Just FYI. I worked at Dominos all through High School. Promise I know how its done. 🙂
